MovieMe Launches World's First Pay-Per-Minute Streaming Platform, Letting Audiences Pay Only for the Minutes They Watch
As consumers ditch subscriptions at record rates, MovieMe's paying user base already spans 90+ countries and has reached 150,000 app downloads during beta. Creators keep an industry-leading 70% earnings from every minute streamed.

July 2026 — MovieMe, the world's first pay-per-minute streaming platform, officially launches today, giving audiences access to premium films, series and long-form video from leading creators around the world while allowing them to pay only for the content they actually watch.
The entertainment industry has spent the last decade optimizing for subscriptions, advertising and algorithms. MovieMe believes there is a better way.
How MovieMe works
Rather than charging monthly subscription fees, MovieMe allows users to purchase simple bundles of viewing minutes (100, 500 or 1,000 minutes), which are immediately available and can be used to stream any content of their choice on the platform — either via the MovieMe website or app.
Each creator earns revenue based directly on the time MovieMe users spend on that creator’s content. Creators receive 70% of the per-minute earnings, a standout in the industry. MovieMe’s model incentivizes creators to focus on high-quality video storytelling — rewarding genuine attention rather than clicks or ad impressions and delivering a direct connection between audience engagement and creator earnings.
A new model for both creators and audiences
MovieMe creates a new category in streaming between traditional subscription platforms and free ad-supported services. Designed to complement rather than replace the platforms creators already use, MovieMe provides filmmakers, documentarians, journalists, educators, comedians, travel creators and other long-form storytellers with a simple, transparent and equitable way to monetize premium content.
Data shows that all around the globe, the streaming subscription is losing its luster — and consumers are paying for it. A 2026 Self Financial survey found that three in five Americans (60%) had at least one paid subscription going unused each month, and a recent study from the UK Government's Department for Business and Trade found that unwanted subscriptions cost families in the country more than £1.6 billion a year.
At the same time, creators are increasingly looking for alternatives. Patreon’s 2025 State of Create report found that 67% more creators now earn income from direct payments than they did five years prior, highlighting a significant shift toward creator-owned business models.
Bhavesh Joshi, Founder and CEO of MovieMe, said: "The creator economy is one of the most remarkable cultural shifts of the last two decades — but the economics have never worked for the people actually making the content. At MovieMe, we believe creators should be rewarded based on genuine attention, not just algorithms or advertising."
Joshi trained at the School of Visual Arts in New York and the National Film and Television School in the UK, and spent years working across filmmaking, acquisitions and distribution before founding MovieMe. Watching creators build loyal audiences they couldn't meaningfully monetize, while audiences continued paying for content libraries they barely used, convinced him the model needed rebuilding from the ground up.
Early momentum
Despite zero paid marketing investment, MovieMe's beta has already demonstrated significant international demand.
Key milestones include:
150,000 app downloads
Paying users across more than 90 countries
43.5% user retention beyond the first month
60% of paying users aged between 18 and 34
These early results reinforce the growing demand for streaming models that better align viewer spending with creator earnings.
What’s next
MovieMe's official launch begins in Türkiye, in partnership with leading creator Alper Rende, one of the country's most prominent digital voices. With more than 8.7 million followers across his social media channels, Rende is among the first major creators to join the platform. The partnership demonstrates what the pay-per-minute model makes possible for creators with established, engaged audiences, and marks the first step in a broader international rollout.
MovieMe is now actively onboarding creators across documentary, travel, education, journalism, comedy, lifestyle and more.
